GeoNames-ua
A digitised and refined dataset of Ukrainian geographic names, derived from the State Register of Geographic Names and corrected for coordinate accuracy.
A volunteer project to digitise and refine the geographic names of Ukraine from the State Register of Geographic Names, published in 2018 by the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre.
The source data was released as PDF, with coordinates rounded to a degree that leaves their accuracy approximate. This dataset converts those records into a usable form and improves their precision where possible.
Scope
The register covers the names and locations of Ukraine’s physico-geographic features and nature reserve fund objects. Made accessible and accurate, the data is useful for conservation organisations, OpenStreetMap mappers, tourists, local historians, cartographers, and for educational use in schools and universities.
Note on provenance
This is an independent volunteer effort, not an official government product. The source register is public; the value added here is structure, format, and coordinate refinement.
