A satirical map that transposes the viral US “Midwest” grid meme onto Ukraine. The original, popularized by Brilliant Maps, overlays a strict 3×3 grid on the United States and renames its regions by literal geometric position — exposing how little conventional labels like “Midwest” have to do with actual geography. This version applies the same logic to Ukrainian oblasts: nine cells, from North West to South East, cutting across historical regions with the same deadpan indifference.
Administrative boundaries from OpenStreetMap were processed in QGIS; typography and final styling in Inkscape. The design is deliberately minimal — bold labels on a neutral base — so the naming, not the rendering, carries the joke.
