Map of maritime traffic density across the Black Sea, built on the Global Ship Density dataset — an aggregation of all observed ship movements from 2015 to 2020. The data was obtained through a partnership with the IMF as part of its World Seaborne Trade Monitoring System (Cerdeiro, Komaromi, Liu and Saeed, 2020).
The map drew wide attention on Twitter and went on to inspire other cartographers’ own takes on the dataset.
